Breaking Ground on Ardea

On May 3, 2024, Deacon’s Washington team in collaboration with TWG Development, proudly co-hosted the groundbreaking ceremony for Ardea at Totem Lake in Kirkland, WA. This significant event brought together esteemed guests, including Kirkland Mayor Kelli Curtis, Deputy Mayor Jay Arnold, Councilmembers Neil Black, Amy Falcone, and Penny Sweet, along with King County's Housing and Community Development Division Simon Foster, Imagine Housing’s Executive Director Yichuan Zhao, ARCH Executive Director Lindsay Masters, and Amazon Community Impact Fund’s Lily Kim.

Although the event set the stage for making new connections and strengthening those previously established, the real highlights came in the form of inspiring talks from project and local leaders. Culminating in the ceremonious breaking of ground, the event was one for the books.

Ardea at Totem Lake was designed by Wattenbarger Architects, owned by TWG Development, and is being constructed by Deacon Construction. This seven-story building spanning 137,034 sf will provide 170 units of Affordable Senior Housing, catering to veterans and seniors with incomes ranging from 40-60% of the local Area Median Income.

Nestled in a prime location with convenient access to transit routes and pedestrian pathways, Ardea at Totem Lake is not just a residential complex but a vibrant community hub. The building will boast thoughtfully designed interior and exterior communal spaces, staff offices, and a host of wheelchair-accessible amenities to enhance the quality of life for its residents.

Named after the majestic great blue heron, Ardea Herodias, the property's proximity to a protected wetland offers residents the chance to witness the grace of these magnificent birds in their natural habitat. Meticulous measures are being taken to preserve the integrity of the wetlands, ensuring the conservation of wildlife habitats for generations to come.
